Anchor Hardwoods began as a small lumber company dedicated to providing exotic and domestic hardwoods to home builders, wood turners, boat owners and people working on individual home projects. The focus was and continues to be on the individual customer. As time has progressed, we’ve grown our capacity to produce custom milled flooring, furniture, and other products for high end users, but we are still committed to solving individual problems our customers often encounter when trying to find and then work with exotic lumber.
Anchor is now under the leadership of Bill Moore, a master craftsman whose hands-on experience with all types, grades and species of lumber enables unsurpassed quality workmanship. Bill began his lumber career with a nationally positioned lumber company, working as a stacker, a sawyer, a kiln worker, then moving to inside and outside sales, always concentrating on the quality craftsmanship needed to do it right. Working with Yankee craftsmen, he created complicated stair systems, pre-hung door systems, and solid wood countertops—at one point in his career Bill developed a luthier business, designing and manufacturing components for stringed instruments that were sold all around the world.
Now at the helm of Anchor Hardwoods, Bill has partnered with Cape Fear Riverwood to expand that level of individual quality, bringing together more than 22 years of company experience to offer you the absolute finest in over 40 species of hardwoods, reclaimed antique heart pine, and long leaf heart pine recovered from the Cape Fear River and the Neuse River.
Every member of the Anchor team is committed to encouraging the use of environmentally responsible building materials. We recognize how fortunate we are to be able to work with materials that are such an integral part of our country’s history, and we dedicate ourselves to the loyal stewardship of these natural resources.
It’s about time. Much of the lumber used in our process was part of a mature forest encompassing over 100,000 square miles, growing at the time the pilgrims came to America. This cherished heart pine, whether reclaimed from old barns and other buildings or retrieved from the bottom of the river, is all about time. Exotic hardwood lumber also takes time, time to mature, and time to be properly milled to the desired specification. And it takes time to bring it up to your level of expectation.
Under Bill’s leadership, we believe it’s about time these two unique sides of the industry were brought together, to influence the correct use and stewardship of each. It’s about time to make all this available to you under one roof, one source for all you need in quality craftsmanship from us, or to provide the lumber you need to apply your own knowledge and craftsmanship for successful completion of your project.
